DEDHAM AND DISTRICT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

 Meetings are held in the Assembly Rooms, Dedham at 7.30 pm with Speakers’ evenings on the first Wednesday in the month.   The Society has a varied programme of talks and events – see below.   The annual subscription is £5 and new members are always welcome.   

The Society’s year starts in May but last season members enjoyed the following events:

2 June        An outing to LITTLE BENTLEY HALL WATERWAYS AND GARDEN SHOW

14 June      A COFFEE MORNING at The Willows, Lower Street, Stratford St. Mary

25 August    The AUTUMN FLOWER SHOW

3 October    A talk on FINGRINGHOE NATURE RESERVE by Matthew Cole (Warden)

7 November A talk on UNUSUAL PERENNIALS by Roger Harvey (Harvey’s Garden Plants)

5 December  A Special Christmas Meeting with The Haywainers  including wine and mince pies

5 March      A talk on PLANTS FOR PROBLEM PLACES by Matthew Tanton Brown (The Place for Plants)

19 March     A COFFEE MORNING at Hill House, Lamb Corner, Dedham

2 April        A talk on CLEMATIS by Nurseryman Julian Flood

5 April        The SPRING FLOWER SHOW in the Assembly Rooms

2008/9 programme:

7 May        The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING  plus  THE STORY BENEATH OUR FEET, a talk on Local Fossils by Reg Appleby

12 June      An outing to RHS GARDEN, WISLEY.  Cost: £10 members, £12 (non-members). 

26 June      A COFFEE MORNING at Pound Farm House, Manningtree Road, Dedham with plants and books for sale.

30 August    The AUTUMN FLOWER SHOW in the Assembly Rooms, Dedham

1 October    A talk on COMPANION PLANTING by Karen Kenny (BBC Radio Suffolk)

5 November  SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW a talk by Andrew Tokely from Thompson & Morgan.

3 December  Our Special CHRISTMAS EVENING with entertainment by The Dedham Players

2009 includes talks on Plant Hunting in Chile, Flower Arranging, Exotic Plants and Restoring a Cottage Garden.
