Dedham Footpath Group - 2009 Walks Programme

Friday 27 Feb 1000am.  Meet at Parish Rooms, Stratford-St-Mary where we will be joining the Stratford group. We then drive to Raydon (car share if possible) for a 4-5 mile walk, led by Don Umfreville (322626), to Hadleigh along the former rail track. Pub lunch in Hadleigh then back to Raydon.  

Thurs 19 March 1030am. To be led by Sally Northfield (01255 670605) & Michael Wagland. Meet at Great Holland Church. Drivers should turn right to B1032 in Kirby Cross  and after 1 mile left for church. A circular walk of approx 5-miles to the coast at Frinton. Refreshments at end or at Frinton.

Sunday 5 April 1030am. To be led by Rosemary & Frank Tetley (397202). Meet at Stour Woods main car park. Bring own food for post-walk picnic.

Sun 26 April 2pm. Leader Reg Appleby (323047). Meet Royal Sq for a 2-hour walk  on the West side of Dedham (optional cut-off point for shortened walk of approximately 3-miles)

Sunday 17 May 1030am Meet at Dedham Car Park Mill Lane for local walk to be led by Wendy Brown (844482)

Friday  29 May 7.00pm Evening walk to be led by Eve Jones (322068). Meet at Royal Square, Dedham for a 90-minute ramble in and around the village. After walk refreshments at the leader’s house - The Travers, Crown St.

Sunday 14 June 2pm. The pre-barbecue walk will, as usual, start from Hindley Wood, near top of East Lane Dedham and will be led by Ron Wood (322196). The barbecue will be at approx 4pm. Members old & new and friends are invited. Bring own beer/wine.

Sunday 28 June 1015am. Leader Sheila Beeton (322171). Meet at The Compasses, car park Holbrook (1m from Royal Hospital School) for a walk of 5-6 miles. Book lunch at start of walk if desired.

Friday 3 July 7pm. Meet at War Memorial in Great Oakley for a 90-minute walk in and around the village to be led by Myra Leatherdale (01255 886649). Refreshments at Myra’s home after walk.

Sunday 19 July 1020am. Leader John Osborn (322157) Meet at car park, Manningtree Station for a 9-mile walk back from Ipswich. We take 1033 train.  Halfway lunch at ‘The Case is Altered’ in Bentley, Suffolk.

For a 4-5 mile walk one way from Bentley to Manningtree meet up with others at same P.H. at 1pm for lunch, or 2pm walk only. At end drivers can be driven back to their cars in Bentley. (Book own lunch or contact John in advance) 

Friday 7 August 7pm. To be led by Sheila Beeton (322171). Meet at Langham Community Centre for 2-hour evening walk with refreshments at  Rye Farm, Long Road West (Sheila’s home) at end of the walk.

Monday 31 August 5pm. For the Bank Holiday why not meet walk leader Eve Jones (322068) at Royal Square for a local walk of about 1½ hrs?  A similar walk was held at the end of the Dedham Village Event in past years.

Sunday 13 September 1000am. Leader Robin Jackson (322365). Meet at The Anchor, Stratford St Mary for car share to Colchester Leisure Centre. A 2-hour walk along the River Colne to the Hythe with return on opposite bank. Return to The Anchor for lunch at approx 1pm. (book at start if desired)

Saturday 26 September 2.30pm. To be led by Robert Cort & Anita Morton (323817). Meet at The Bristol Arms, Shotley for a ramble of a little over four miles. Make own arrangements for lunch in The Bristol Arms (1pm). This is a repeat of the walk Robert & Anita led in 2008 when it was very wet.

Sunday 4 October 2pm. Leaders Reg & Jean Appleby (323047). Meet in car park Mill Lane Dedham for a 6-7 mile river walk to Cattawade and back. Optional cut-off at Flatford 3¼m. Refreshments in leaders’ house in Forge St.

Sat 17 October 1100am. Leaders Martin & Pauline Broom. Meet at car park The Crown P.H. in Wormingford for 2-hour ramble - optional lunch in Crown.

Sat 14 November 1000am. Meet at The Bell P.H. car park in Kersey for 5-mile walk. Please phone walk leaders, Paul & Merriel Gallifant (394202), if staying on for lunch.

Friday 11 December 1100. To be led by John Osborn. Meet in Royal Square for morning ramble of 4-5 miles. Why not stay on for some lunch in the Essex Rose or Craft Centre?
