Dedham Footpath Group

Sunday 24 February 2.00pm To be led by Wendy Brown (844482).  Meet at Brinkley Grove Road, Highwoods, Colchester (park on road opposite Gilberd School Gates, assemble at the gates) Two-hour gentle stroll through Highwoods Country Park followed by refreshments in Wendy’s house.

Easter Sunday 23 March 2.30pm To be led by John Osborn (322157). Meet at Fiveways Carpark, Manningtree for a two-hour stroll along some of the footpaths of Lawford and Manningtree. Those desiring pre-walk lunch at 1pm in The Crown, Manningtree,  396333,  please make own arrangements

Sunday 20 April 3pm. To be led by Reg & Jeannie Appleby (323047) Meet at The Walls, by the wooden shelter, (B1352 near Mistley Towers) for a two mile walk around Furze Hills, Mistley.

Sunday 27 April 1030am  To be led by Pam James (01255 502788 - with assistance from the ‘Tetleys’). Meet at the main car park, Stour Woods, Wrabness. 2-1/2 hour slow walk (can be shortened). Bring own picnic lunch.

Friday 9 May 7.30pm To be led by Myra Leatherdale (01255 886649)  Meet in the car park of the public house in Great Oakley (near the War Memorial)  One and half hour walk, with refreshments provided by Myra at the end. 

Sunday 25 May 2.15pm  To be led by Reg & Jeannie Appleby (323047) Meet at the Community Centre, Stutton for a two and half mile walk along the Stutton shoreline. (Nearby Gardeners Arms (01473 328868) for a pre-walk lunch if desired - please make own arrangements).

Sun 8 June 2.00pm To be led by Ron Wood (322196). Meet at Hindley Wood,  top of East Lane in Dedham. The popular barbecue of the past few years has been moved to a Sunday and an earlier time. With help from Brian Hindley and others the barbecue will be held soon after the walk finishes (approximately 4pm) Members old and new and friends are invited. Bring own beer/wine.

Sunday 22 June 2.30pm  To be led by Jennie Cracknell (01473 328433) Meet at the car park of the Village Hall, Belstead (signpost Belstead on A137 three miles before Ipswich.) Suggested pre-walk lunch at 1pm - ‘The Case is Altered’ at Bentley (01473 310282) – please make own arrangements.

Friday 11 July 7pm   To be led by Eve Jones (322068). Meet at Royal Square Dedham for a short evening ramble along local footpaths followed by refreshments at The Travers, Crown Street. 

Sunday 27 July 1030am To be led by Sheila Beeton (322171). Meet at the public car park The Street, East Bergholt close to The Red Lion (298332) After the walk option of lunch in The Red Lion – please make own arrangements. Likely time 1.pm-1.30pm.

Saturday 9 August 2.30pm To be led by Robert Cort & Anita Moreton. (323817) Meet at The Bristol Arms, Shotley for a four and a quarter mile ramble in a new area for us. Make own arrangements for lunch (1pm) in The Bristol Arms (01473 787200).  

Bank Holiday Monday 25 August 5.00pm. To be led by Eve & Carl Jones. (322068) Meet at the War Memorial, Dedham.  Approx two-hour stroll for members and visitors following the Bank Holiday village event.

Wednesday 10 September 11.00am To be led by Sheila & John Prescott (01728 648397) We meet at Thorpeness Public Car Park  for a walk of approximately one and a half hours (3-4miles) before lunch and approx two-hours after lunch - which will be in The Dolphin Hotel,  Thorpeness. Car share details from Eve or John.  Total walking distance approximately seven miles but members can come for the afternoon, or morning only, if they wish.

Thursday 25 Sept 1030am To be led by Robin Jackson (322365). Park in the lay by on left side of road past the church in Wormingford for a circular walk both sides of lunch, which is planned for 12.15-12.30pm in The Beehive, Little Horkesley.

Sunday 5 October 2pm  To be led by Reg & Jeannie Appleby (323047). Meet in the Mill Lane Car Park, Dedham for a 3 to 4 mile walk in the Dedham & Stratford-St-Mary area. Jeannie & Reg will be providing refreshments at their home in Forge Street, Dedham after the walk. 

Sunday 19 October 1030am To be led by Robin Jackson (322365). Park in the area of the green, near the church, in Stoke by Nayland for a circular walk of three to four miles. Option of lunch in The Anchor, Stratford-St-Mary after the walk. Make own arrangements (322143).

Saturday 15 November 1030am.  To be led by Paul and Merriel Gallifant (394202). Meet at The Old Queens Head, Ford Street, Aldham (241584) on the A1124 towards Halstead. Circular walk approx five miles with cut-off. (Make own lunch arrangements mentioning Dedham Footpath Group.)

Thursday 11 December 1030am. To be led by Alison Trimby & John Osborn (322157). Meet in Royal Square Dedham for a winter stroll of approx 2 hours.
